What is it?

A career audit is a thorough review of your career in order to draw learning from it. Why you’ve made the decisions you have and what different decisions you can make in the past are two big goals of the career audit.

Why should I do it?

To have a clear idea of the roles and activities you don’t like to do and focus on what you do like to do. It will help narrow the criteria for your Opportunity Scorecard and provide a space for reflection on your career. Looking back is the best way to avoid making the same decisions moving forward.

📝 FYI: You don’t have to know what you want to complete this activity. Doing it when you don’t have a clue can help provide a spark!

How do I do it?

Set aside time

The entire form has 20 questions separated into three sections: background, early career, current career, and what’s next. You can approach the activity in whatever way feels natural but the more time you put into the activity the more impactful the results.

Think in milestones

It is sometimes hard to think about your career as one big thing. Separate it into years, quarters, or milestones to be more manageable. If you can pull 1-2 big inflection points out of 3-4 roles or companies, you are more than halfway to 10 milestones, learnings, or lessons that would have otherwise been forgotten.

💡 Quick Tip: No pressure to do this all in one sitting. Picking a question or two to do over time could be a nice way to focus on your career management each day.
